Es ist also eine reine RS232 Schnittstelle. Ob es TTL oder high-level Signale sind, musst du denn testen.
Ansonsten gibt es auch genug USB Host Controller dir per SPI angebunden sind. Somit wäre auch eine USB Schnittstelle mit einem ATMega 8 kein Problem.
